Umar Ibn Al-Khaṭṭāb (582-644), the second of the Rightly-Guid Caliphs (Al Khulafāʾ Al-Rāshidūn), was the most revered Companion of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) after Abū Bakr Ibn ʿAbī Quḥāfa (may Allah be pleased with him). The first Muslim ruler t assume the title of Amīr Al-Muʾminīn (Commander of the Believers), Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went on to build one of the most humane systems of governing known to the world, rooted in public welfare, social justice, rule of law and tolerance. Umar, through his life examples and reign, succeeded in actualising the refined teachings of the Quran and the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a remarkable way.
